Life of an Owl Training Underway at Timberlane

January 21, 2016

Forty-seven student athletes have been selected from grades 8-11 to be trained as the next group of “Life of an Owl” leaders this Friday at the Timberlane Regional High School following mid-term exams.  The students were selected based on the 5 C’s of an effective leader: Competence, Character, Civility, Citizenship, and Chemical Health.  These students will be trained in the Life of an Athlete Program www.loanh.org, which imparts the effects of lifestyle choices on human performance.

The training will begin with a talk from Jeff Hatch, former NFL player for the NY Giants who sustained a career ending injury related to his opioid abuse.   Mr. Hatch will share his inspirational journey as it relates to his recovery and hope for others struggling with opioid dependence.    Students will learn about diet, hydration, sleep, exercise and recovery, and the effects of chemical health (not using alcohol and other illicit drugs), and optimizing human performance to become the “best version of themselves.”  These students will then be asked to use their leadership skills to spread the message to all of their classmates, beyond just the athletes, hence this is why they have adopted the name “Life of an Owl.”  For more information about the Life of an Owl program contact Angelo Fantasia at Angelo.Fantasia @timberlane.net  or Tim Lena at Timothy.Lena @timberlane.net  or call the TRHS at 603-382-6541.
