TIMBERLANE REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS RECEIVE NEW HAMPSHIRE AMERICAN LEGION STATE PROGRAM AWARDS

June 26, 2014

The New Hampshire American Legion Boys State Program is a proud tradition in the American Legion reflecting their commitment to America’s youth. Each year 60-80 high school juniors participate in the New Hampshire program. Two of these students are among the 100 students who are to be selected from the 20, 000 Boy State delegates nationwide who will travel to Washington, D.C. and to participate in the national Boys Nation Program.

Boys State, which is a “learn-by-doing” experience in the American way of government, creates a forum for discussion by tomorrow’s leaders about the issues of today and the challenges of the future. New Hampshire boasts an excellent Boys State Program who strives to maximize the availability of this program to as many high school juniors as possible.

The New Hampshire Boys State Award is presented to a member of the junior class selected by the American Legion, Carl G. Davis Post of Plaistow to represent Timberlane Regional High School at the Boys State in Nashua. This student is selected on the basis of leadership, academics, and patriotism. The 2014 New Hampshire Boys State Award was presented to Ryan Blomquist of Atkinson.

Ryan, who will graduate in June 2015, is a leader in his class and throughout the Timberlane community. He is a dedicated student who is involved in numerous extracurricular activities including president of the Concert Choir and member of two honor societies. He is passionate about the things he is involved in and is committed to standing up for what he believes is right.

Much like the Boys State, delegates of the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Program are selected by American Legion Auxiliary units, which work with local high school educators to select young women demonstrating leadership qualities.

The American Legion, Carl G. Davis Post of Plaistow selected Timberlane student Holly Salois (class of 2015) to represent the Timberlane Regional High School at the Girls State in Nashua. Like Ryan, Holly was selected on the basis of leadership, academics, and patriotism.

Holly Salois of Sandown is an exceptional student who ranks in the 5 percentile of her class academically. She is motivated, conscientious and engaged in her learning. Holly continually challenges herself by taking honors or AP level classes. Her future plans are to attend a four year college to study writing, philosophy or political science. Outside of the classroom Holly is involved with the Performing Arts Center where she is a leader in the school orchestra.

It is the Timberlane Regional School District’s belief that the experiences of Boys State and Girls State will enhance both Ryan and Holly as it relates to their strong leadership skills as well as help them to grow as individuals.
